Medical Qigong Healing Session
Qigong has been around for 1000’s of years. There are many kinds of Qigong, just as there are many kinds of martial arts. One of my favourites is Spring Forest Qigong. It is a simple, efficient and effective method for helping you experience optimal health, wellness and happiness; helping you heal physical and emotional pain and enhancing the quality of your life and those of others.
Qigong can be learned in the same way as Tai Chi or any martial art. I commenced learning Karate in 1983 and then Tai Qi and Wu Kung in 1989. I was first introduced to Qigong in China in 1991. Qigong is a series of exercises performed with mindfulness and breath and awareness of the movement of qi (chi) throughout the meridians in the body. The exercises develop our internal and external strength and flexibility. Studies have shown that there are many benefits including improved muscle and bones strength, micro circulation and better immunity.
In 1991, I attended an International Traditional Chinese Medical conference and study tour where we observed the use of Medical Qigong, Acupuncture and integrated TCM and Western Medicine for the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. I was inspired by everything that I saw and learned about these ancient practices which are still very much a part of daily life for many Asian people . During several intense workshops with Qigong Masters and subsequent visits to teaching institutes, hospitals and rehabilitation centres, we learned the benefits of Qigong and the reason it continues to have such a strong presence in daily life for wellbeing. Qigong, like most martial arts, can be used as an exercise regime for personal health. I learned Wai Dan Qigong, Nei Dan Qigong and Bone Marrow Qigong. We were set the challenge to practice Qigong for 100 days (1-3 times per day) for 30-45 minutes to become proficient and free of impurities. It was a totally transforming experience. I knew it would continue to always be part of my life.
Qigong can be very easy to learn. There are many kinds of qigong taught all over the world. Chun Yi Lin is the founder of Spring Forest Qigong and he offers a very simple form. I love his motto: A healer in every family and a world without pain. Visit his website for further information and inspiration about qigong. (http://www.springforestqigong.com/)
Master Chunyi Lin designed all Spring Forest Qigong active exercises to enhance the flow of your energy, open any energy blockages you may have, and bring your energy back into balance. Having balanced, smoothly-flowing energy is the key to experiencing and maintaining your optimal health and wellness. Each active exercise also provides a specific additional benefit: In Chinese teaching there are two types of energy: yin and yang. Everything in the universe is comprised of yin and yang energy. You can think of it as female and male or like the negative and positive charges of a magnet or battery. One of the reasons you get sick is that your yin and yang energies are out of balance. All Spring Forest Qigong techniques are designed to bring your yin and yang energies back into balance to help you be the best you can be.
Someone who has learned and practices qigong regularly, can also help address energy imbalances in other people. The practioner, in a conscious qigong state, emits qi with proper intensity and density from some points or parts of one’s body. The emitted qi is a kind of qigong massage. It’s effects are to regular and improve the function of the muslces, channels, zang fu organs, circulation of blood and nervous system of self and others. Qigong Masters can emit qi by will, eyes and hands.
I have been practicing Qi gong for many years and have been utilising various techniques including those from Spring Forest Qigong to help clients restore balance to their systems. Medical Qigong is not a substitute for medical treatment. It can however complement all kinds of medical treatments and complementary therapies and be used to help restore and harmonise the natural balance of energy.

What is Qi Gong?
Medical Qi Gong is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Qi is life energy and TCM says that the health of the body relies upon a smooth flow of Qi within the body. Disease is the result of poor Qi circulation. Balancing the flow of Qi allows the body to heal itself. Gong means work or hard task, and it is the task of learning how to control the flow of Qi through the body using breath, movement, and meditation. Martial artists and Qigong practitioners learn how to move Qi (Chi) and many of the exercises stimulate the even flow and distribution of energy throughout the meridians in their body. A Qigong practioner can do an energy scan and clear stagnant energy, stimulate the flow of energy and balance energy. Universal energy is used. The Qigong practioner is not a healer – just a facilitator to assist the natural healing process.
What you can expect in a Qigong Treatment
The Qigong treatments that I offer include a comprehensive energy scan, clearing & balance. Utilising Qigong to determine the energy levels (highs and lows) to determine where to focus universal energy for your healing session. The client can be seated or lying down for a Qigong treatment. Qissage can be incorporated into the treatment and this involves some direct massage of acupressure points on the body.
I like to provide Qigong in a quiet, comfortable room without much talking with just the sounds of calming music and water. This practice is done with mental focus, gentle movements, breath and sound.
Helpful Tips:
-
Breathe slowly, gently, deeply
-
Let your body relax
-
Focus on feeling the energy
-
Do these movements standing, sitting or lying down
As you breathe in, gently draw your abdomen in a little. As you breathe out, let your abdomen out. Breathing this way increases the communication of your yin and yang energies.
Gently place the tip of your tongue against the roof of your mouth. Your tongue is an energy switch that connects your body’s two main energy channels.
Keep your hands and fingers open. When you open your hands and fingers, you open your energy channels. When you close your hands and fingers, you close your energy channels.
