I am passionate about providing holistic treatments, training and education that promote lasting good health and well being. I believe that when we have inner harmony – physically, mentally and emotionally – we enhance our capacity to live happy, healthy, meaningful lives. We can all experience Body Mind Harmony.
My eclectic background in education, science, community development and healing modalities has influenced my perspective of how we can rediscover our balance by letting go of stress and integrating the mind, body, and spirit.
Over the past 30 years I have worked with individuals and communities who have experienced trauma. This experience helped me to develop a much deeper understanding of the pervasive effects of trauma on the entire being. It effects learning, relationships, health, and just about every area of life, including our capacity to function responsibly as part of the larger community. I have always had an intense interest in peace and how inner peace has a relationship to our capacity to care for others and for our earth.
I found myself absorbed in learning as much as possible about how trauma affects the mind, body, and spirit. I have been on a learning journey observing the way traditional eastern practices and modern medicine seek to address the impacts of trauma and stress related illness on the body and mind. I have increasingly recognised the need for and value of self help techniques which empower individuals. We all play a key role in our own healing when we have the tools to do so.
Intrigued by the importance of integrating the body after a traumatic experience, I began exploring the benefits of yoga, qigong and mindfulness meditation. I have an interest in neuroscience and the role of neuropsychology and neurophysiology in developing our understanding of the mind and body and the way stress, tension and trauma impact upon both.
The body and mind are largely studied separately and seen as distinct areas of science, yet the human organism functions as one whole integrated being. Increasingly modern science is finding there exists relationships between mind and body. Some fascinating new areas of science are finding relationships between the mind, or psychological processes, and the nervous and immune systems. See this link:
The very nature of our existence in dynamic societies means that humanity is exposed to ongoing change and challenge. Our instinctive responses to life events can lead to gradual or intense experiences of stress and trauma, that affect our homeostasis. The fine balance between mind, body and spirit can be literally shaken, by a fright, flight or freeze response to an event or series of stressful experiences.
Yet as animals, we have an innate response, that we have largely suppressed and forgotten which could rectify the imbalance. Neurogenic tremors provide all humans with an opportunity to release the pent up physical energy and associated emotions, that become trapped in the neuro muscular and neuro pschological systems; within our bodies.
My own personal experience with trauma and the discovery of the healing benefits of Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) have led me to become a TRE practioner and trainer. TRE is a simple technique developed by Dr. David Berceli that uses 6 exercises to release stress or tension from the body that accumulate from every day circumstances of life, from difficult situations, one-off or prolonged stressful situations, or traumatic life experiences.
TRE can help everyone. People working in fields where they experience vicarious trauma, greatly benefit from having another tool for their self care regime. It is a simple and powerful activity to induce gentle neurogenic tremors which restore the homeostatic status of our being. Put simply it harmonises the mind and body and allows healing to occur on a very deep level. I was astounded by how quickly TRE can help bring the body back to homeostasis and help the human organism heal from stress, tension and trauma.
Everyone desires a stress free state of mind and a pain-free body. Some people also look for a deeper connection to self and others for enrichment and/or enlightenment. So often we look outside of ourselves for help from experts to assists us with the conditions that bothers us. Yet with TRE, you are equipped to help yourself and to become empowered to be more self reliant.
Dr. Berceli has been teaching TRE all over the world for many years, helping millions of people release deep stress and tension, experience freedom from physical pain as well as emotional trauma.
I am very excited to be able to offer TRE training to individuals and groups. I plan to do further studies in the field, to gather evidence about the long term benefits of the practice, and to look at ways to make TRE accessible to everyone who has interest in being pain free and stress free. TRE has the capacity to change individual lives, communities and the world.
Integrated healing – body, mind and spirit.
Inner harmony for living… creating peace, one person at a time.
I have an interest in sharing my knowledge through TRE consultations, workshops and training. I also provide private consultations and treatments in holistic massage and energy balancing treatments. I am committed to meeting individual needs in a caring and empowering way. Encouraging people to develop skills in their own self care – through the use of tension releasing exercise (TRE), stretching, qigong, breathing, mindfulness and/or relaxation techniques.
I have worked in the non profit and government sectors in project management, community development, primary and special education, and strategic environmental and community health planning. I am a professional member of the Victorian Insititute for Teachers and Australian Association of Massage Therapists.
Research and Self Care
I am currently planning research of TRE practice for people living with: PTSD, addictions, generational trauma, chronic stress, and for special groups such as VCE students, new arrival migrants and victims of crime or natural disasters.
My passion for development of high quality well-being and training programs has led me to look for new ways to enhance treatment programs and to build opportunities for individuals to learn simple self help practices for personal well being. I provide private consultations and group training and well being sessions for the general public and for health professionals and clinicians looking for new tools for self care.
